Biography

Hendrik Johannes Cruijff ( internationally-Cruyff) was born on 25 April 1947 and passed away on 24 March 2016. He was a Dutch football coach and professional football player. During his career, as a player, he won multiple trophies such as Ballon d’Or in 1971, 1973, and 1974. Johan Cruyff is regarded as one of the greatest football players in history worldwide.

He was an exponent of the new tactical theory called Total Football, according to which any outfield soccer player could take the place of any other player in a team. This tactic made the Netherlands national football team to reach the final of the 1974 FIFA World CUP. Cruyff was an instrumental player in this tournament.

Joan Cruyff is known to be the founder of many trends and football moves, such as "Cruyff Turn." He also set the trend of wearing other numbers on shirts, and not the usual 1-11 number. He was playing as a number 14.

Career

Joan Cruyff’s career in Football Club Barcelona started in 1973 when he was sold to the club for 6 million guilders( which is approximately 2 million US dollars). If you ask any Barca fans who are top 5 players of Barcelona, Joan Cruyff will be on anyone’s list, even after his death he doesn’t lose his place. Cruyff also endeared himself to the Barca supporters and chose a Catalan name for his son.

After transferring to Barcelona, Joan Cruyff helped the club to defeat Real Madrid with 5-0 and win La Liga for the first time since 1960. After the match, thousands of fans came out from homes and joined in the celebrations on the streets. People and also team members believed that with Joan Cruyff, they could's lose. As New York Times journalist wrote, defeating Real Madrid on Santiago Bernabéu lifted people's spirits, and the 90 minutes that Cruyff spent on the stadium had done more for the Catalan people that any politician could do in years.

In 1974, Joan Cruyff won the title of the European Footballer of the Year. In Football Club Barcelona, Cruyff was an attacking midfield. In 1977-78, along with the club, he won Spanish Cup, and during this time, he also became the Best Foreign Player two times in 1977 and 1978.
